This page sets out which certifications are held by the CRS manufacturing partners, which are required for each destination market, and how certificate listing works for buyers who need certificates in their own company name.
Certifications in commercial refrigeration are held by the manufacturing factory, not by the export supplier. CRS / Caiersun Kitchen Equipment sources products from two specialist manufacturers in China whose factories hold the certifications listed below.
The electrical safety and hygiene certifications — including UL, ETL, ETL Sanitation and CSA — are held by our production partners and are verifiable in the issuing body's public register under the certificate holder's name.
For a complete and current list of certificate numbers, holder names and covered models, contact us. Certificate documents are supplied with the quotation on request, and can be verified directly with the issuing body.
| Category | Certifications | Primary Markets |
|---|---|---|
| Electrical safety | UL, ETL, CSA, CB, CE, UKCA, GS | North America, EU / UK, Middle East |
| Food hygiene | ETL Sanitation | United States, Canada |
| Energy efficiency | Energy Star, DOE, ERP, EU energy class A | United States, EU |
| Environmental | RoHS, REACH | EU, UK, and many other markets |
| Management systems | ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BSCI, BRC | Internationally recognised |
Refrigerant is the gating requirement. EU Regulation 2024/573 prohibits self-contained equipment with GWP ≥ 150 from 1 January 2025. R290 (GWP 3) and R744 (GWP 1) are compliant. CE marking and the EU Ecodesign energy labelling requirements also apply.
ETL or UL for electrical safety, plus ETL Sanitation for food hygiene. These are NRTL marks requiring factory inspection and ongoing quarterly surveillance. Energy Star and DOE energy compliance apply to certain categories.
SABER platform under SASO. Requires a Product Certificate of Conformity (PCoC) per model and a Shipment Certificate of Conformity (SCoC) per shipment, with 60 days validity. Customs clearance requires a valid SCoC. Arabic labelling and energy efficiency requirements apply.
ECAS scheme under MoIAT (formerly ESMA). CE marking does not substitute for ECAS, though CE reports may be submitted as evidence to the accredited CAB. Refrigerators and freezers also require energy efficiency registration and labelling.
EU Regulation 2024/573, which replaced Regulation 517/2014, prohibits self-contained refrigeration equipment containing fluorinated gases with a GWP of 150 or more from being placed on the EU market from 1 January 2025. Subsequent scheduled steps extend restrictions to self-contained equipment containing fluorinated greenhouse gases generally.
Imported pre-charged equipment is treated as an HFC import, so quantity in the circuit counts against quota and the paperwork must exist before the declaration.
| Refrigerant | GWP | EU status for self-contained equipment |
|---|---|---|
| R404A | 3922 | Prohibited from 1 January 2025 |
| R134a | 1430 | Prohibited from 1 January 2025 |
| R448A / R449A | 1387 / 1397 | Above the 150 threshold; service side only |
| R290 (propane) | 3 | Compliant — the standard route for display and prep cabinets |
| R744 (CO₂) | 1 | Compliant — used where charge or ignition rules block flammable refrigerants |
| R600a (isobutane) | 3 | Compliant |
R290 is classified as an A3 flammable refrigerant, which means charge quantity limits, ventilation and component selection requirements apply. Export units built to IEC 60335-2-89 are the relevant standard for this product category.
Yes, in many cases, through a certificate listing (also called multiple listing or additional listing) arrangement. This is a process where an existing certification is extended to cover additional brand names or legal entities without re-testing the product, provided the product is identical to the certified model.
Important limitations to be aware of:
Where you require a listing in your own entity name, contact us with your company registration details and we will confirm feasibility with the production partner and the certification body.
| Certificate | Scope | Frequency | Typical validity |
|---|---|---|---|
| PCoC | Product Certificate of Conformity | Once per model | Up to 2 years for standard categories; 6 months for high-risk categories |
| SCoC | Shipment Certificate of Conformity | Every shipment | 60 days |
| SDOC | Self Declaration of Conformity, for non-regulated low-risk products | Per shipment | Per consignment |
Where a valid CB or IECE certificate is available, the SABER product certificate process can be shortened to approximately 5 to 7 working days, compared with 10 to 20 working days for a standard assessment.
ETL certification is held by the manufacturing partners, not by CRS directly. CRS sources products from factories in China that hold ETL, ETL Sanitation, UL, CSA, CE, CB, GS and Energy Star certification. Certificates are verifiable in the issuing body public registers under the certificate holder name. Buyers who require the certificate issued in their own company name can request a certificate listing (multiple listing) arrangement, which for an identical product normally does not require re-testing.
Yes, effectively. Under EU Regulation 2024/573, self-contained refrigeration equipment containing fluorinated gases with a GWP of 150 or more has been prohibited from being placed on the EU market since 1 January 2025. R404A has GWP 3922 and R134a has GWP 1430, both above the threshold. R290 with GWP 3 and R744 with GWP 1 are the compliant routes. For the EU, UK and markets following the Kigali Amendment, specify R290 or R744.
ETL Sanitation is the hygiene and food safety component of ETL certification, covering equipment that comes into contact with food. It addresses material safety, design, construction and cleanability, including internal corner radii, approved food zone materials and removable components for cleaning. For commercial refrigerators in North America, ETL Sanitation is generally required alongside electrical safety certification, as health departments typically require it for new commercial kitchens.
Saudi Arabia requires conformity documentation through the SABER platform operated by SASO. Two documents are needed: a Product Certificate of Conformity (PCoC) obtained once per product model, and a Shipment Certificate of Conformity (SCoC) obtained for each individual shipment with 60 days validity. Customs clearance requires a valid SCoC. Products must also meet Saudi energy efficiency requirements and Arabic labelling requirements. Note that SASO and SABER certification is separate from ETL, CE or CB certification.
No. CE marking satisfies EU requirements; ECAS is the UAE's separate mandatory conformity assessment scheme administered by MoIAT (formerly ESMA). A CE test report can be submitted as supporting evidence to an ESMA-accredited conformity assessment body, but the CAB decides whether the report scope and laboratory accreditation are sufficient. CE marking alone does not grant ECAS certification. Refrigerators and freezers also require energy efficiency registration and labelling under UAE regulations.
For Saudi SABER, a standard product certificate typically takes 10 to 20 working days, reduced to 5 to 7 working days where a valid CB or IECE certificate is available. For UAE ECAS, expect 4 to 10 weeks depending on CAB workload and whether new testing is required. NRTL marks such as ETL involve factory inspection and ongoing quarterly factory surveillance to verify continued compliance. The specific requirements should be confirmed with a certified conformity assessment body for your destination market.
Yes, in many cases, through a certificate listing (multiple listing or additional listing) arrangement. An existing certification is extended to cover additional brand names or legal entities without re-testing, provided the product is identical to the certified model. Only the certificate applicant or manufacturer is authorised to apply the mark, listing normally carries an additional annual fee, and a product differing structurally or electrically requires supplementary or full re-testing. Contact us with your company registration details to confirm feasibility.
Send the model number and destination market. We will provide the available certificate documents and confirm what additional certification is required for your market.
